This post covers legislative and rule-making resources for the state of Maine. One of the resources offered that I find extremely useful is the online Annual Regulatory Agendas page. This page offers links to each agency’s current agenda and the corresponding document provides an overview with valuable contact information for the individual assigned to the matter. It saves me the time of going to each agency’s site.
I also love the integration of the Legislature’s calendar. Just click on the event of interest and find a list of all participants, a list of relevant documents (linked to pdf files), copies of relevant notices and even an audio link to hear the actual event. Everything that could possibly be linked is linked. It really does save a lot of time and clicking around!
Legislation
Fast Facts
- Governor Signing Information: Once legislation is transmitted to the Governor, he has 10 days to sign or veto or else it becomes law without signature. If the Governor does not act and the Legislature adjourns, the bill does not become law (a/k/a pocket veto). If the Legislature comes back into special session, the Governor has 4 days to veto or else the bill becomes law.
- Effective Dates for Signed Legislation: Effective dates are usually included in the text of the bill. If no effective date is indicated, the bill becomes effective 90 days after the session ends.
