Current awareness alerts can help you stay informed about news, emerging developments, and recent publications related to your field. Of course, the big online legal research vendors (Westlaw, LexisNexis, Bloomberg Law, and Wolters Kluwer Cheetah) all have integrated systems for generating alerts based on search parameters for cases, dockets, statutes, or regulations. Google Alerts is also a wonder for retrieving recent news results relating to your topic, but there are other methods, too, which can help shake things up a bit and keep your current awareness efforts feeling fresh. In 280 characters or less, you can spend your morning skimming the latest headlines for virtually every newspaper, news channel, bar association, and legal news commentator on the planet. This is my absolute favorite method for keeping abreast of new developments when my email alert system starts to feel stale.
